About Loudoun Interfaith Relief:

Fiscal year ending June 30, 2010, LIR served an astonishing 66,789 individuals. That is a 43% increase in service from the previous year. We were able to provide healthy and well balanced food to prepare more than 620,000 meals! We are proud to say no one left without an ample supply of food to feed their families.

The mission of Loudoun Interfaith Relief, Inc. is simple, yet critically important: feed the hungry by providing emergency food assistance to those in need to any person or family living in Loudoun County.

Loudoun Interfaith Relief:

  • Established in 1991
  • Largest food pantry in Loudoun County
  • Provides food to prepare three nutritionally-balanced meals for three days
  • Non-food items provided on an as-available basis
  • Trained staff and volunteers utilize the food pyramid to design healthy meals
  • Several staff members are certified food handlers
  • Requires clients to provide Loudoun County proof of residency (or referral) and identification
  • Affiliated with the Lord Fairfax Food Bank located in Winchester, VA

LIR formed in 1991 by a group of dedicated volunteers from the area who realized the hunger needs of the community were not being met. These volunteers were united by a commitment to offer support and solutions to several groups of people: (1) the working poor whose income is insufficient to cover basic necessities, (2) the unemployed, (3) the senior or the sick who cannot compete in the workplace, and (4) the homeless who have no income and cannot afford a roof over their head.

Today, as the population of Loudoun County has increased, the number below the poverty line has also increased and, accordingly, so has the number of families and individuals we help. This past year, LIR directly served 66,789 individuals (over 16,000 families).  Last fiscal year, LIR was able to provide enough food to prepare almost 700,000 meals.
