Leesburg Police Launches Anonymous Tip Line Service

For the first time, the Leesburg Police Department is now able to receive anonymous text and web tips from the public via the service called "TipSoft."

Residents can also download an app available on the iPhone and Android . TipSoft, allows agencies and the public to have a two-way dialog that is completely secure and anonymous. This is possible by encrypting the text message and assigning the resident with a unique ID, protecting the personal details from the information provider.

"The widespread use of text messaging makes it easy for the public to help law enforcement agencies fight crime," said Police Chief Joseph R. Price. "And with TipSoft, they can know that it’s safe for them to do the right thing without ever disclosing their identity."

To date, TipSoft has received more than 2 million tips, 145,000 arrests have been made, 55,000 fugitives caught, more than $5.3 billion recovered in drugs and property, 11,000 vehicles recovered, and 22,000 weapons recovered.

But that’s not all the police department is doing!

Leesburg Police also uses the web service "Crime Reports." This service allows residents to sign up to receive alerts of criminal activity or view registered sex offenders in your area.

To sign up for the alerts visit crimereports.com. You can send anonymous tips by texting "LPDTIP" plus your message to "CRIMES" (274637).
