Want Fresh and Local? Come to Leesburg's Farmers Market!

Come on out this Saturday to the Leesburg Farmers Market anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. You can buy fresh local fruits and vegetables, as well as beef and pork directly from the farmer who raised them!

The cost is free to attend and the Leesburg Farmers Market is every Saturday until October 30. The market is located behind Cardinal Bank across from the Post Office at 20 Catoctin Circle in Southeast Leesburg, VA. There’s nothing better than eating fresh and supporting your local farmers!

Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball

Art Exhibit “French Suite” Coming Soon

Artist Sherry Zvares Sanabria will soon be displaying her paintings in the exhibit “French Suite.” The exhibition will run September 10 through October 2 with an opening reception on Friday, September 2, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

On Sunday, September 19, Sanabria will be hosting an artist talk called “French Suite and Other Experiences” at 3:00 p.m. in the gallery.

The exhibit is located in Art Square at 12 Cardinal Park Drive, S.E. in Leesburg, VA. The gallery will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have any questions you can call 703-777-5498.

Labor Day Trash Schedule

While the Town of Leesburg offices at Town Hall will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 6, the trash collection schedule will remain the same for the holiday.

For Leesburg residential customers, trash and yard waste will be collected on Monday, September 6, in the SW and SW quadrants (this includes South King Street and West Market Street). For Leesburg commercial customers in the historic district, have your items at the curb after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 5 and before 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 6.



Leesburg's First Friday

Be sure to head downtown on the first Friday of each month to historic downtown Leesburg. The “Leesburg’s First Friday” events offer live music performances, art exhibits, lectures, comedy shows, wine tastings, yoga happy hours and even more! Stroll around South King Street, Loudoun Street, Market Street and North King street because the fun is all around downtown Leesburg.

Want to Adopt a Mistreated Cat or Dog This Weekend?

Volunteers from the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation are working to help find new homes for mistreated animals in different locations from Falls Church to Leesburg.

The founder of Log Dog and Cat Rescue, Pam McAlwee, has placed over 15,000 animals with new families since the launch of the organization in 2001. These non-profit group travels by van and continues to host up to 5 pet adoptions every Friday and Saturday morning.

Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation has a staff of 8 full-time employees and relies on another 300 people in volunteer positions who help out at the weekend events by walking, feeding, and taking care of the rescued animals.

Come this weekend, Saturday, August 7th, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to the PETSMART in Seven Corners of Falls Church, VA for the dog and cat adoption. The address is 6100 Arlington Blvd.
