This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.

GAYLORD NATIONAL UNVEILS PLANS FOR NEW PREMIER, OUTDOOR WATERFRONT VENUE

Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center kicks off  the fall season with the announcement of its newest premier outdoor waterfront venue,  RiverView Terrace,  slated to open in Spring 2012.

“We are thrilled to see the construction of RiverView Terrace rapidly underway,” said Phil Coffey, Gaylord National's Senior Vice President and General Manager.  “The transformation of one of our prime outdoor areas will allow us to further set the standard for unique events in the Washington region and deliver an unparalleled experience for social gatherings.”

Loudoun County Offers Downpayment/Closing Costs Assistance Program

Loudoun County offers financial assistance through the Downpayment/Closing Costs Assistance Program (DPCC) to first-time homebuyers.  The program assists low-to moderate-income homebuyers purchase homes in the county. 

Administered by the Loudoun County Department of Family Services, the program makes loans available to homebuyers with a total household income between $31,850 and $74,300.  Applicants must currently live and/or work in the county for the most recent six (6) months. Standard eligibility requirements apply.  Funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Highlights of the program include:

•  Loan amounts up to ten percent of the purchase price or $25,000, whichever is less

•  30-year loan

•  Interest rate of five percent

•  Principal and interest payments deferred for the first three years 

Waterford Old School Auditorium Construction Underway

On July 18 Scott-Long Construction began work on the Waterford Old School Auditorium, and now the basement excavation has been completed. Footings will be poured this week.  The construction crew is doing its best to keep traffic, noise, and dust confined to the Old School property and to minimize the disturbance to Waterford residents.

Loudoun County Green Building Efforts Pay Off in LEED Silver

Loudoun County has been awarded its first LEED-certified Silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USBGC) for a county government capital project. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system.  The Loudoun County Homeless Services Center has just earned a Silver certification with 38 credits, just one point away from a Gold rating.

Loudoun County CDBG Program Highlighted by HUD

Loudoun County’s Community Development Block Grant Program (CBDG) has been spotlighted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as an example of a successful program.

At a recent event hosted by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, HUD Regional Administrator Jane Vincent highlighted two CDBG projects in Loudoun: the county’s Emergency Homeless Shelter and the renovation of affordable housing rental units near Middleburg.

The purpose of the CDBG program is to help develop viable communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. Organizations within the community are given the opportunity to compete for these funds through an organized application process.
