Free Parking for the Holidays in Downtown Leesburg

Parking in the Town Hall parking garage and at all on-street parking meters will be free from Wednesday, November 27, 2013 through Wednesday, January 1, 2014

The Town of Leesburg will be offering free parking throughout the holiday season in the Town Hall parking garage and at on-street parking meters in the Historic Downtown.  The two-hour limit at on-street meters will remain in effect during the free holiday parking promotion.  Free parking will begin at 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 and will continue until 8:00am on Thursday, January 2, 2014.  The tradition of providing free holiday parking in downtown Leesburg began in 2005.

Leesburg Reminds Residents About Snow Emergency Routes and Snow Removal Policies

In preparation for the winter weather season, Town officials remind residents and businesses about Town policies for handling snow, sleet, ice and other wintry precipitation.

Snow Emergency Routes.  A snow emergency is declared when two or more inches of snow, sleet or other icy precipitation has accumulated on Town roadways.  When a snow emergency is in effect, all vehicles must be removed from streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes.  Any vehicle not removed from the designated streets when a snow emergency is in effect will be towed at the owner’s expense.  Snow Emergency Routes are:

  • Market Street, from Fairview Street to the Route 7/15 Bypass
  • King Street, from the Union Cemetery to Country Club Drive
  • Loudoun Street, from Liberty Street to Harrison Street

Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department Seeks Public Input on Current and Future Recreation Programs

The Town of Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department is conducting an online survey about the programs and classes offered by the Recreation Program.  The survey is open to everyone, although the Town requests that only one response per household be submitted. 

“We are looking to add new programs and tweak the existing ones,” explained Megan McLaughlin, the Town’s Recreation Program Supervisor.  “We want input from our current customers as well as residents who haven’t participated in our programs in the past for suggestions on programs and classes that would interest them.”

On Friday, June 28, 2013, at 2pm, Roosters Men’s Grooming Center will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of their new location at 521 East Market Street  in the Bellewood Commons Shopping Center.  Leesburg Mayor Kristen C. Umstattd will officiate the ribbon cutting, along with Tony Howard, President and CEO of the Leesburg Chamber of Commerce.

The Roosters Men’s Grooming Center in Leesburg is the franchise’s second Loudoun County location. Owners Amy & Larry Hall also own a Roosters Men’s Grooming Center in Ashburn.  

“We were met with such an overwhelmingly positive response when we first opened in Ashburn that our dream to open a second location in Loudoun County is now becoming a reality,” said owner Larry Hall. “We are thrilled to become active members of the Leesburg business community.”

Donate Non-Perishable Foods at Loudoun County Harris Teeter Stores to benefit Loudoun Interfaith Relief

In partnership with the Washington Nationals, Loudoun County Harris Teeter stores are hosting a food drive to support Loudoun Interfaith Relief now through July 8, 2013.

Harris Teeter announced in May a $225,000 donation to its food bank partners, which includes Loudoun Interfaith Relief (LIR) and is hosting this food drive to help raise additional awareness for the problem of hunger. Donations made at Loudoun County Harris Teeter locations will benefit the people and families that LIR provides food to locally. Food collection bins will be placed in the Loudoun County Harris Teeter locations lobby for food donation.

Goose Creek Village Shopping Center Hosts Family Fun on June 8 with a Summer Dollar Sidewalk Stroll

 

Gather your family — including your pets — and stop by Goose Creek Village Shopping Center on June 8 between 1 PM and 5 PM for the Summer Dollar Sidewalk Stroll. Goose Creek merchants will participate, as will other small, local businesses, and the event will benefit Loudoun Youth, Inc., a local nonprofit organization that offers youth development and leadership programs to Loudoun County teens.

Guests at the family-friendly outing will enjoy food samplings from the center’s restaurants. Passion Fin, already dubbed a top sushi restaurant in Northern Virginia, will offer free California roll samples and $3 sushi plates, while East Wind China Bistro will offer free samples and coupons.
