Manassas City AWARDED PRESITIGOUS PLATINUM-LEVEL, RELIABLE PUBLIC POWER PROVIDER DESIGNATION

The City of Manassas, Va. Department of Public Works and Utilities was awarded the 2012 Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) platinum level recognition by the American Public Power Association (APPA) for outstanding reliability, safety, work force development and system improvement. The City of Manassas was one of two public utilities in Virginia to be awarded the RP3 in 2012, out of 16 Virginia public power providers. Only 94 of the more than 2,000 public power utilities in the United States earned the Reliable Public Power Provider designation in 2012. This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.

Occasionally Cake of Alexandria, Va. recently hired Mount Vernon, Va. native, Dana Bailey, 29, as a manager-in-training and a baker. Her favorite cup cake invention is Banana’s Foster, made with banana cake dipped in dulce de leche with rum butter cream icing and sprinkled with brown sugar. Bailey is a recent graduate of Stratford University in Woodbridge, Va. with a degree in baking and pastry. Although she spent the past 10 years working in government administration, Bailey knew her ‘calling’ was to be in the kitchen creating and designing cakes. When she’s not whipping up a new cupcake flavor, she enjoys reading and listening to music.

The City of Manassas Public Works and Utilities department recently unveiled the new ChargePoint America Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations in Old Town Manassas, Va. In efforts to be environmentally friendly and cost-effective the department has proactively researched alternative energy options for customers. More than 100 Chargepoint America EV charging stations are installed throughout Virginia, Maryland and Washington, while more than 50 areas in the United States also contain the stations. A Night to Remember: Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce Hosts Stars Over Dulles Gala to Benefit USO

Laughter and style were out in full force Saturday as more than 300 guests attended the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards gala and benefit Saturday at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport Hotel in Herndon.

In addition to recognizing local businesses, non-profits and citizens for their support of both the chamber and community, this year’s “Stars Over Dulles” gala also benefited the Metropolitan Washington branch of the United Service Organizations [USO]. “It was another outstanding event,” said Dulles Regional Chamber President Eileen Curtis. “Every year we raise the bar higher and this year was extraordinary.”
