Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation Expands Area Adoption Events in 2011

Since 2001, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation (LDCRF) has rescued over 15,000 dogs and cats from high-risk situations and placed them in permanent, loving homes. As 2011 begins and their 10th anniversary unfolds, the volunteer organization is hoping to place even more animals by expanding their reach to eight adoption events every weekend. The new weekly schedule, beginning Friday, December 31st, is as follows:

Fridays, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (Dog and Cat Adoptions)
PETSMART - Fairfax (Fair Lakes Shopping Center, 12971 Fair Lakes Center Fairfax, VA)

Saturdays, 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Dog and Cat Adoptions)
PETSMART - Seven Corners (6100 Arlington Blvd. Falls Church, VA)

Saturdays, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (Dog Adoptions)
PETSMART - Fairfax (Fair Lakes Shopping Center, 12971 Fair Lakes Center Fairfax, VA)

Leesburg Boy, Nick Bart, Shines at Regional Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

From the Town of Leesburg – Nicholas Barts, a nine-year-old from Leesburg, recently placed second in the Washington Redskins Team Championship Punt, Pass & Kick competition.  

The NFL’s Punt, Pass & Kick (PPK) program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete individually against their peers.  Competitors begin at a local school or community event.  The top finisher from each local competition advances to the Sectional level.  At the Sectional level, only the top four finishers from the entire pool of Sectional competitions for each Team Championship advance to the Team Championship level. Every NFL team hosts a Team Championship competition, with the top four finishers from all Team Championships across the country moving onto the National Finals.

Scores gathered recently for a Dinner for a Food Cause, an elegant dinner and silent auction at the beautiful Restaurant at Patowmack Farm in Lovettsville, VA. They were there to support INMED Partnerships for Children, a local organization that’s making an international difference. INMED is a nonprofit development organization that rescues children around the world from immediate and irreversible harm and prepares them for a brighter future.

Celebrate the Most Wonderful Time of the Year at Holidays in Leesburg!

From the Town of Leesburg – The Town of Leesburg invites locals and visitors to enjoy "the most wonderful time of the year" and experience a little holiday magic in historic downtown Leesburg. 

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, the holiday spirit will be in full swing as Leesburg hosts the annual holiday parade. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. and usher Santa and his friends down King Street, through the heart of historic Leesburg. The parade will begin at Ida Lee Drive and end at Fairfax Street. Parade participation is open to the public, including businesses, civic groups, teams, organizations, and community groups. In preparation for the parade, King Street will be closed to vehicular traffic at 9:30 a.m. from Ida Lee Drive to Catoctin Circle.

Leesburg Celebrates Opening of The Cooley Gallery with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 10

From the Town of Leesburg – At 5:45 p.m., on Friday, December 10, 2010, Town of Leesburg officials will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Cooley Gallery, located at 12 South King Street in Historic Downtown Leesburg.  Mayor Kristen C. Umstattd will be officiating.

Owned and operated by Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and his wife Christy, The Cooley Gallery will feature ceramics, painting, photography and artwork in various mediums.  Much of the work featured will be Chris’s own pottery and painting as well as the work of other local artists.

An art major at Utah State and 2004 draft pick of the Washington Redskins, Chris has kept his passion for painting and pottery alive.
