Leesburg Police Detective Doug Shaw Receives Commendation Medal

From the Town of Leesburg -- On Saturday, November 19, 2010, Detective Doug Shaw of the Leesburg Police Department was awarded the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal by the Colonel James Wood II Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (VASSAR).  The Law Enforcement Commendation Medal is awarded for accomplishments and/or outstanding contributions in an area of law enforcement.

Detective Shaw is a member of the department’s Crisis Intervention Team, and in that capacity served as the primary negotiator during a botched robbery in July 2009 where two elderly members of the Leesburg community were held hostage by a gunman who threatened them with great harm. Detective Shaw was effectively able to utilize his communication skills and negotiation training to bring about the release of the two hostages and the peaceful surrender of an armed and dangerous felon.

This Saturday Is Small Business Saturday: Santa Says You Should Shop in Leesburg's Historic Downtown

This Saturday, November 27, is Small Business Saturday. It's dubbed "A BIG DAY for Small Business," and it's a day to come together in support of the small businesses we love.

Historic Downtown Leesburg is packed full of wonderful shops and restaurants that employ our neighbors and reinvest our money close to home. Many of these small businesses are members of the Leesburg Downtown Business Association, and they are also an important part of our community and local economy.

This holiday season, Historic Downtown Leesburg wants to earn your business. So start your holiday shopping off right by visiting "Leesburg's Original Town Center."
