Local Residents Bring Virginia Wine to Your Pocket

Local Residents Bring Virginia Wine to Your Pocket

Finding the best Virginia wineries this summer is now easier than ever, thanks to Rick Collier and Nancy Bauer. The duo created a mobile guide to the Virginia Wine Country called “Virginia Wine in my Pocket.” This application is now available for $3.99 on iTunes your iPad, iPhone, and iTouch.

Between July and December of last year Rick and Nancy, while still working full-time jobs, went on a tour they dubbed “150 Wineries in 150 Days Tour.” During this time they researched, wrote, and photographed for the application, which they published this past March.

“I’ve now taken a sabbatical to focus on Virginia Wine in My Pocket, and our first app, called Rehoboth in My Pocket, which was published last year,” said Bauer.

Pizzeria Moto owner, Jay Clement, is making some seriously good pies. Superb wood fired oven pizzas made fresh on location from a mobile brick oven. What more could you ask for?

The Neapolitan styled pies have a crust that is soft, tender, perfectly charred, and chewy. The Johnny Cash pie with bacon jam (sweet and tart caramelized onion and bacon topping), fresh mozzarella, and purple onion will leave you wanting more.

Here is a sample of the pizza menu offered for catered events.

White Pie: Chopped Garlic, Fresh Mozzarella, Pecorino Romano, Basil, Olive Oil, Sea Salt

Moto-Roni: Hot Sopressetta, Fresh Mozzarella, Italian Tomatoes, Parmigiano Reggiano

Fiorella Pizzeria e Caffé: Grand Opening Weekend in Maryland’s National Harbor

It’s all about pizza and Italy at Fiorella Pizzeria e Caffé located in the National Harbor Plaza. Fiorella offers over 30 artisanal thin-crust pizzas in a restaurant where the entire dining area was built in Italy. The walls, booths, tables, chairs, light fixtures, art and sculptures were built in La Spezia, Italy. Once everything arrived on site at National Harbor, a team of highly skilled Italian craftsmen, carpenters and masons (who have never before been to America) arrived to do the installation.

My Kind Of Senor-Rita

My Kind Of Senor-Rita

Finally something that tastes as good as it looks in the picture. Rita's an ice cream parlor standing by its' mission of providing "Ice Cream Custard Happiness" has become a popular choice amongst District of Columbia and Maryland area residents. Originally started in the summer of 1984, Bob Tumolo, a former Philadelphia firefighter, opened his first store in Bensalem, Pa, deciding to name the then small time ice cream business after his wife, Rita. Initially developing the perfect flavors alongside his mother Elizabeth, the team concentrated on using fresh fruit and natural products in order to provide customer satisfaction.
