Leesburg resident Christopher Porter, better know by his DJ name, Zenbi, is a marketing entrepreneur turned into a globetrotting DJ and chart-topping dance music producer. Porter is this week’s Super NoVA for his successful career as a world famous DJ, and for following his true passions.

Coming from humble beginnings in his hometown of Philadelphia, Porter rose through the ranks to become Chief Marketing Officer of a several hundred million dollar NASDAQ-traded company, Javelin Systems, in his early twenties. He later became CEO and owner of Training Camp, which is a worldwide provider of information technology training services.  Porter accomplished all of this before his 30th birthday, and then made the leap into a new line of work, music.

“Coming from a musical family and having played a number of instruments, the transition to a DJ and producer seemed like the logical progression for someone as passionate about music as I am.  Now, nearly two decades later, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to produce and perform without the financial stresses that burden most musicians,” said Porter.

Porter resides in Leesburg, Virginia, in part due to his home’s proximity to Leesburg Executive Airport, where he flies his private plane, a Cirrus SR20, to his company’s headquarters each week in Philadelphia.
“Since dedicating myself primarily to music, I’ve had a string of top 10 tracks (including my song Pitch Black that is current the #6 Techno track) that have been supported by industry heavyweights like Mark Knight, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, Dubfire, Dr. Kucho!, DJ Chus, and more,” he continued.

Porter attributes his success to pursuing ‘work’ that mirrors his passions. He believes there is an internal motivation that allows him to work harder, faster, and longer because he enjoys what he does. As time goes on, Porter hopes to be able to dedicate more time to both music production and continuing to expand his record label Zenbi Recordings.

“I’d like to use the label as a platform to help uncover and develop new talent – and pass my passion to others,” said Porter.

Zenbi currently DJs Lima Lounge in DC every Friday night, where you can see him perform house music alongside other Zenbi recording artists.
